Damian - The Dog From Hell (Chapter I)

Damian - The dog from hell

It was a nice sunny day in a bustling market of Hyderabad, the city of nawabs has always been a little laid back so most old markets here don't open before 11am. Just like any other day some of the street vendors were setting shop, some brooming and dusting their concrete settlements, while a few were unloading their goods and more vehicles were pulling up to deliver, some others were enjoying their morning slice of gossip with hot tea on the side. Amidst all this noise and chaos where two women waiting eagerly to meet their new member of the family.

We had just recently lost a pet and like many pet parents would know, the void was unbearable. We lived on a fairly large farm land with lots of open space away from the hustle of the city. Growing up, we always had dogs and for us family meant having these four legged furry babies always by our side.

When you live away from the city and are self reliant for practically everything, having a dog would not be just a passion shared by many in our family but also a necessity to guard us, our property and to keep the miscreants at bay. Our dogs unlike many in the city, had a lot of place to roam, were close to nature and had also had responsibilities.

Every morning as we came out of the house we would always find our dog/s sitting right outside after guarding the house and the farm all night long without a wink eagerly waiting for their breakfast and time to get off duty. As the family is up and about the dogs retire to their rooms and stay asleep until 3pm every day. They did enjoy the time with the family in the evening and were allowed to roam the house and stay inside while we watched a movie, but they always preferred the outdoors and almost like a clock would get up and leave as night falls to get on duty.

Few weeks into the loss mom and I were quick to realise we needed our loyal companion back. We made a few calls, spoke to friends, family and finally our vet, who told us about Damian the son of a racer dog.

So back to the market scene were we two ladies were eagerly waiting to meet him and all of a sudden almost like a warning there were strong winds lifting up the dust and sand making it difficult to see and next followed the off seasonal showers settling the dust and making the weather quite humid, through this all came a scooter and stopped right in front of us.

The man got off the scooter and brought a see through yet waterproof bag with droplets sliding off of it and laid it on the counter in front of us. Inside was a tiny pup all black and tan making squeaky noises, trying to move around in the bag and at the same time looking so sacred and uncomfortable, there was Damian "the dog from hell".
