Our Story

We were like any other middle class couple with full time jobs, long working hours, lot of aspirations, commitments and big dreams. It was not until much later that we decided to have children, at least not till  we were in a comfortable space both mentally and financially.

My son was born and everything seemed so perfect. We were all thrilled at the new addition to our family and couldn't wait to just get home, but little did we know of what's to follow.

During a routine check up the paediatrician noticed that he had a mild case of jaundice and his breathing seemed laboured. He asked us to admit him and this led to a lot of tests and revelations.

The hospital after multiple tests concluded that our son had a congenital defect that needed corrective surgery. While the doctors were confident that it could be fixed and was actually one of the most common birth defects, as a parent, it is not something that you can gut.

It was hard on us, it made us question everything, first came the guilt - did we do something wrong, was it one of us, was it our lifestyle? then came the worry- would our son be okay, would it impact his life, what are the long term implications? and lastly - is the surgery tricky, its risks and the success rate?.

We had consulted a multitude of doctors, met countless specialists, before we were convinced on what next. For next 6 months we were in and out of hospitals for check ups, tests and finally came the surgery followed by postop tests and doctor consultations.

When I look back today, and see how far my son has come, healed and healthy, I am thankful to everyone who was part of the journey - the brilliant doctors, nurses, hospital staff, family, friends and more importantly the absolute random strangers at the hospital who gave us so much hope and courage by sharing their experiences and life stories.

During this phase like any mother I read a lot about my son's condition, treatment, lifestyle changes and what not. While there is a mountain of information online on literally anything, and everything it was not always easy to get through to the right information. I felt overwhelmed, confused, and sometimes scared with what I found. I was looking for a place where information on everything from simple day to day child care, lifestyle, parenting to common and complex paediatric medical conditions, their care and everything in between could coexist in simple and easy to follow language for parents like us. Where we could share our struggles, challenges, experiences and suggestions. One place to address all our needs so we can tend to our little ones with confidence.

That's when Babyyaps was born.

Babyyaps is not just an information platform, but a place to bring parents together, empower them with knowledge, and enable all kinds of parents to navigate the complexities of parenting. So let's get yapping about the good, the bad, the irritating, at times frustrating and, yet so beautiful and rewarding phase of our lives - Parenting!!!
